BAY LINES COLLECTION

About This Project
BAY LINES COLLECTION
TEXTILES & WALLPAPER & WALL VINYL

An illustrative interpretation of the serene beauty of East Australian coastal flora and textures was the inspiration of the Bay Lines Collection. Inspired by the picturesque landscapes and soothing energy of Nelson Bay, each design within the Bay Lines Collection is a heartfelt homage to the calming allure of life in the Bay. From the mesmerising dance of the trees to the intricate details of the blooms, every element reflects our profound appreciation for the unique beauty, lushness, and textures the Bay offers.

From the towering Gymea Lilies that punctuate morning walks to the dappled shade offered by glossy Umbrella Tree leaves, each design in the Bay Lines Collection grew from observation of the vegetation and textures that epitomise coastal living, invoking a tactile connection to the rhythms of the Bay.

As with all of Patricia’s collections, the Bay Lines Collection is a sophisticated, hand-illustrated and richly textural interpretation of the natural patterns she observes in her wanderings.

LOOKING UP

Looking up, I spotted the Gymea Lilly with its hardy reddish rosette of trumpet-shaped cluster of flowers at the top of the 6-metre-tall flower spike. They are absolutely magnificent to see – especially in large numbers in the thick bush – their beauty stands out and high. I focused on the flower rosette with its multi-layered bloom full of texture and movement.

MORNING SUNSHINE

The Morning Sunshine design is named after the Morning Sunshine variant of the Cordyline. These plants are so versatile and can even be eaten. The carpet of leaves that flow from this design has a subtle movement of curls and a dense and lush texture. Adding a touch of the tropics to this collection with this design inspired by the Cordyline plant, also known as the ‘Good Luck Tree’.

PARASOL LEAVES

The glossy palmately leaves that radiate from a central stem of the ‘Umbrella Plant’ inspired the Parasol Leaves design. These leaves gently fan out into a rounded crown and the fruit has brilliantly displayed berries clustered together. I loved the canopy that this tree creates, and the shade it provides from the Australian Summer sun, and this is what I intended to achieve with this leafy design

PASSION FLORA

The impressive tropical Passion Fruit flower was the creative influence for the Passion Flora design. This intricate bloom growing along the vine was the motivation to create a classic tropical flower design growing and winding along a simple wall.

SEAGRASS RATTAN

By admiring the artistry of rattan weaving, one gains a profound appreciation for the diverse capabilities of woven grasses. Seagrass Rattan design demonstrates this intricate and captivating craft through my hand-illustrated interpretation of this weave.

TANGLED

Observing the fishing nets at the Marina, you start noticing the interesting patterns they create. The hand-tied knots and tangled strands really sparked my imagination for the illustrations in this design.

WOVEN CANOPY

As you wander the Bay’s shoreline, the Butterfly Tree’s rounded leaves create a picturesque canopy, offering refreshing shade along with the delightful aroma of its purple blooms. It’s these unique leaves and the negative spaces they created that served as the inspiration for this design.
